Afternoon Agenda:
Decisions and Feedback:
Ordering new laptops through the school year – deadlines and process - Amanda The plan is to set dates for ordering new student laptops. Orion thinks there is time for one order before Christmas. October 8, January 8, April 8 - only for one to one grade levels to replace an existing machine
The purchase of domain names outside of saschina.org and sasstudent.org - Amanda Please find out who in your division has their own domain names and communicate that to Amanda by the end of the week - she would like to develop some protocols surrounding this. Wikispaces will move SAS wikis to our domain. Edmoto?? It is being used in Puxi HS and ES Chinese. We need paramaters and how to get it in line. Please send a list of wikis that need to be transferred to Amanda.
6th grade laptop discussion and recommendation for SY13-14 – Amanda Choice a) students buy them, choice 2) they are put into the system. Amanda will put together a proposal for the Admin team.
Teacher laptops: Taking care of current laptops and timeline for new laptops - Amanda 4 year old chunky white laptops are hurting. Do not reimage old laptops. Options: 1. We have 20 newer white laptops in stock with Orion. 2. Adding RAM. Orion has sourced some cheaper RAM than what is available through the Apple Center. It is important that the school purchases the RAM, not the teacher. Please do not send an email out about this, there are no guarantees. Take some time in staff meeting to clean up desktops, make alias which free up working memory, and show them how to use disk utilities (it will take 40 minutes the first time) If you are hearing "The Apple Center told us you need more RAM," please communicate this with Amanda
If a teachers chooses to use a personal Macbook as their one device on the network, that is okay providing they fill in and sign a form from Orion
Subscription services in each division – who has what? - Amanda Amanda is trying to compile a list of subscriptions - please send her a list of subscriptions you have in your division that you have helped to set up, or that are being used. Amanda will follow up with teachers as needed
Bring Your Own Mac – Why or why not? – Simon M. There are tech issues and political issues involved. We have been rigid in the past and that gives the school a lot of control. Other schools do allow people to bring their own Macs onto the network. Orion will talk to other schools about the specifics of what they are doing.
Video Portal and new media portals/links – Simon M./Jeff/Kris The old video portal is not accepting registrations. Simon M has a fix. There is a new video portal http://videonew.saschina.org Is it ready to go? This needs to be ready by Out In Shanghai Days. Patrick is on it and will communicate with us.
Storage Space on East Server – Simon M.
Date Night with your Mac – Jeff Puxi - October 19. Pudong date has not been decided - Amy, Simon and Simon to choose a date and communicate that with Andy and Amanda
MAP Testing Update - Jeff Grade 3 - 10 we need to download the newest questions. We need Test Taker 9.0 on each student machine. Start pulling machines and check your Test Taker on each machine. Be prepared to add Test Taker 9 to each machine. You'll know it is connected when you get to the log in screen.
Rostering is Tim Chan's job. Andy will communicate this with Tim this week. New students - Jeff can add new students one at a time. Wait until a week before testing and send an email to Jeff and he will ask for a small set of data.
Only MAP testing twice a year
Subscribe Widget on Student and Teacher installations – Amy

Email attachment size update - Orion
Calendaring on Outlook - Pat

Review of Meeting and Promises Made
Expectations for Communications Sometime this week schedule an appointment with your building principals to talk about the Technology Review Process
Next step in Outlook from Orion: The next step is to archive emails. It will look like a folder on your account and no emails will be lost, but it should make things quicker and simpler. Orion will begin by setting up the archive on TRF computers, if there are no problems, this will be actioned on all email accounts. To access anything that has been archived you must go to OWA. Anything in your folders will also be archived.
